Atlantis Helps Mark NASCAR Milestone

Three green flags will be presented at the 50th running of the Daytona 500 on Febuary 17th, 2008. But before they start the race with 43 cars going 180 mph, all three will take a ride of their own... at 17,500 mph. These flags will be stored in the lockers of the STS-122, which was sent up into space on June 8th, 2007.
NASA and NASCAR have been partners in work for a while now. The cushions behind the walls, on the driver's necks, and everywhere else on the track are NASA developed foam structures. NASCAR and NASA also worked together to create the 2006 Winter Olympics U.S.A. bobsled. To find out more about this subject, go to:
